PhilSoc membership benefits
The Society has a membership of over 500 members worldwide. There are two categories of membership, ordinary and student associate.
All PhilSoc members may attend and introduce a guest to Society meetings and other events organised by the Society. In addition all members receive:
(a) online and/or print subscription to the PhilSoc's journal, the Transactions of the Philological Society;
(b) online access to the entire Transactions back catalogue, going back to 1854;
(c) online access to the PhilSoc monograph series, the Publications of the Philological Society;
(d) 20% discount on the list price of any title in the Wiley linguistics list;
(e) discount on monograph items from the Publications back catalogue;
(f) reading (but not borrowing) rights at the library of University College London’
(g) eligibility to apply to the Society’s fund supporting outreach and public events.
Ordinary members may request a print copy of any monograph in the Publications series published during their subscription.
Student Associate Members who are enrolled on a doctoral programme are also eligible to apply for bursaries to cover the cost of giving a paper at a conference or carrying out fieldwork. They may also submit entries to the biennial R.H. Robins Prize.
How to join PhilSoc
Ordinary membership is open to all.
Student Associate membership is available for students enrolled at educational institutions at a reduced subscription rate for up to five years, after which they become an ordinary member at the usual annual subscription rate.
Subscriptions
The annual subscription for Ordinary Members is £20, payable immediately upon joining, and thereafter annually on 1st January. For Student Associate Members, a one-off subscription of £20 is payable, which covers up to five years. Details of how to pay subscriptions will be provided after a completed membership application is received.
